The Dragon, "龙" in Chinese, is a mythical creature often associated with folklore in much of Asia. Long symbolic of fortune, strength, and power, it is so deeply rooted in Chinese culture, the people of China often refer to themselves as "Desendants of the Dragon."
Often the Chinese Dragon is seen as the representation of Yang, the male counter part in the frequently seen Yin Yang symbols. Strength, Virility, Power, Agression are all characteristics associated with Dragons and often men. Whereas, the female embodiment, known as Yin, is symbolized by the Phoenix. As such, the phoenix as a symbol can be seen during weddings or other festivals, often paired with the dragon.
